Ever notice your Tylenol has a musty and moldy odor? If so, it is very likely that was not just in your head. In fact, people across the country have been making these complaints, off and on, for many years. Tylenol has recently recalled thousands of its bottles from pharmacies in nearly every state because of leached pesticides that have damaged the product. As with any drug recall, many unsuspecting individuals have taken the drug and met with adverse reactions. Our drug recall attorneys have unparalleled experience and obtain our clients the compensation they deserve.
Tylenol is an American brand of pharmaceuticals developed in the early 1950s. Tylenol was designed to reduce pain, fevers, and to relieve the symptoms of coughs, colds, flues, and allergies. Tylenol is sold in 68 countries and the company has sold tens of millions of pills worldwide.
Since 2009, Tylenol has instituted several drug recalls in response to many customer complaints. These recalls have been prompted by a variety of reasons: overdosed and under dosed medicines, infectious bacteria, particles of metal and wood, and leached pesticides. Each of these manufacturing mistakes posed grave threats to consumers that took Tylenol.
In 2010, Johnson & Johnson, the largest carrier of Tylenol, ordered the largest recall of the drug yet after consistently receiving thousands of customer complaints over the span of several months. It was discovered that one cause for the recall was the presence of bacteria in a Tylenol manufacturing plant. Although the full health effects of the pills recalled has never been fully revealed, Johnson & Johnson and Tylenol both settled many cases for adverse side effects suffered by users.

After each recall, Tylenol has offered very little information about why they chose to execute a recall. While these recalls are presumably instituted for the safety of Tylenol users, users across the nation have expressed their displeasure with them. Many pharmacies across the country reported users’ displeasure with the lack of Tylenol. This evidences the loyalty of Tylenol users.
In an effort to combat users’ displeasure with the recalls, pharmacies have stocked their aisles with the generic brands of Tylenol as well as Tylenol’s main competitors. But even this does not seem to appease the users.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not have the explicit authority to mandate any of these recalls. However, reports alleging safety concerns issued by the FDA often serve as a catalyst for recalls. Furthermore, the threat of massive liability can and does incentivize these recalls. Both FDA reports and the possibility of liability have led Tylenol to its most recent drug recall.
This most recent Tylenol recall is believed to be due to leached pesticides at manufacturing plants and from wood preservatives used to treat the pallets which transport the pills. There were also concerns of airborne contamination.

Victims have filed lawsuits against Tylenol and Johnson & Johnson, virtually all of which have been settled very quietly outside of a court room.
