Police are currently in the midst of an investigation into the suspect who fired the initial shots on February 21, 2013 in Las Vegas. The shots came from a black Range Rover and were intended for Kenneth Cherry Jr., who died at the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Police said that the Range Rover was just recently found and impounded, although no weapons were recovered from the inside. Police do have a prime suspect in the case, 26-year-old Ammar Harris, who is now the subject of a multi-state manhunt. Police say he has a long history of criminal acts ranging from robbery to kidnapping, some are alleging that he is a member of a sex-trade ring.
Las Vegas Police released pictures of Harris and a young woman, Tineesha Howard, which were taken in the Range Rover. Howard was reported missing, although she just recently contacted police, telling them she was in the car at the time of the shooting. The woman was Harris’ girlfriend of about a year.
On Thursday, just before dawn, Harris opened fire at Kenneth Cherry, who was driving in his Maserati on Las Vegas Boulevard. Cherry subsequently crashed into a nearby taxi, which immediately caught fire. Both the driver and the passenger, along with Cherry, died. Three others were injured in the crash. Police say the dispute between Cherry and Harris started at about 4:00 AM in the valet lot of the Aria hotel.

In honor of the fatalities, Las Vegas taxi companies collectively pledged $35,000 to a reward fund. The money will be allocated to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Harris. Police say Harris has several tattoos, including a large owl that covers his neck and chest and a small heart below is right eye. They are considering Harris to be armed and dangerous. Cherry, who was an aspiring rapper under the name Kenny Clutch, had two children, and had no previous criminal history.
A major section of the Las Vegas strip was shut down for 15 hours that day outside of Caesar’s Palace, the Bellagio, Bally’s, and the Flamingo, as police investigated the shooting. The shooting itself took place just two blocks from where Tupac Shakur was murdered in 1996.When Harris is apprehended, he will be brought to Clark County, Nevada, where he will be charged and prosecuted for murder and other related offenses. All three deaths in connection to this incident are deemed homicides.

This fatal crash is the 23rth traffic fatality this year in Las Vegas. In 2009, a judge awarded nearly $9 million to a woman who was severely injured in a car accident in the city. The woman was driving on an off ramp on Interstate 15 when a truck dropped a large metal object in the direct path of her vehicle. The woman struck the object and was taken to the ER. Over the next few years, the pain in her right leg increased, ultimately requiring a medical procedure to relieve pressure on her sciatic nerve. The scarring on the nerve led to permanent disability and loss of use of her leg. She will require periodic procedures to relieve and control the pain for the rest of her life.
