Sometimes a nursing home abuse case isn’t discovered because of abuse but because of financial fraud. If a senior complains that they’re missing items or money, that could be the lead needed to find an abuser. AL.com reported on a case where this happened.
A teen from Foley, AL, has been arrested for physically abusing seniors and stealing their money from the nursing home she worked at, according to police. Police arrested Jaylon George after searching her home.
George was accused of stealing or financially exploiting at least four seniors at a nursing home she worked at. There may be more victims revealed as the investigation progresses. George was already out on bond for previous financial crimes.
A special team is investigating this case. The team’s focus is on cases involving the elder and financial exploitation or abuse. Elder abuse is a growing crime in the country as the Boomer generation continues to age. People are trying to take advantage of that generation’s high wealth and declining mental faculties to scam them out of money. If these ruses are discovered and challenged by the elderly person, it can lead to abusive situations.
We hope that the victims are able to retrieve their stolen property.
