- Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of NSCLC. It most often forms on the outer part of a person’s lungs and tends to spread to the lymph nodes.
- Squamous cell carcinoma, also known as epidermoid carcinoma, forms in the center of the lungs or in the thin cells that line the main passageways into the lungs, known as the bronchi. Because of its location in the airways, this type of cancer causes symptoms like coughing, chest pain, breathing trouble, and blood in mucus.
- Large-cell carcinoma is most often found on the outer parts of the lungs, but can also be found anywhere within them. This cancer is characterized by the large size of the cancer cells.
