WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ONGLYZA CASES
Onglyza(saxagliptin) is a pharmaceutical manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca. This drug is supposed to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes, but is now associated with increased heart failure and heart attack risk. Unfortunately, the risks of Onglyza far outweigh the benefits.

Onglyza Studies
One study found that Onglyza had no more significant benefits than the study’s placebo. This study, entitled “SAVOR-TIMI-53 Cardiovascular Outcomes Trial of Onglyza” involved 16,500 type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease patients from 25 countries. Half of the participants were given a placebo while the other half were given Onglyza. This study determined that patients given Onglyza did not experience measurable cardiovascular health benefits.
In reaction to another study in the New England Journal of Medicine which found an increased rate of heart failure in Onglyza patients, the FDA ordered clinical trial data from AstraZeneca for investigation. The FDA ordered the manufacturer to submit its clinical trial data by March 2014.
Similar studies and lawsuits involving Byetta and Victoza (LINK TO INCRETIN MIMETICS PAGE)were also getting underway at this time. Each of these drugs were studied because of the concerns over heightened risks of cardiovascular side effects as well as risks of pancreatic cancer in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Onglyza Side Effects
Suffering a heart attack can be devastating to patients already struggling with type 2 diabetes, and even more so if it was caused by their diabetes medication. Even though diet and exercise can drastically help most diabetic patients, Onglyza’s manufacturers fight hard to keep its brand and other similar medications on market and bringing in profit.
Take a look at side effects of Onglyza:
- Conditions of the Pancreas
- Severe Joint Pain
- Allergic Reactions
- Low Blood Sugar
- Heart Failure
- Heart Attack
- Cardiovascular Death
These side effects increase when Onglyza is used in conjunction with other drugs.

In April 2016, the FDA announced that it was updating labels of several type 2 diabetes drugs, such as Onglyza, Kombiglyze, and Nesina, to warn patients of increased heart failure risk.
