Our client John (name changed to protect client) was rear ended by a truck, causing lumbosacral strain, herniated disk, cervical sprain, and thoracic strain. He works as a laborer and had to miss two weeks of work because of the accident. Our attorneys successfully secured a settlement of $995,000 for him.
Our client, Jason (name changed to protect client), was riding as a passenger one morning on his way to work. Jason was a 19-year-old young man who worked long hours each day as a landscaper. On one particular morning, Jason’s driver attempted to travel under a viaduct, however Metra and a garbage dump company left a freight-train-size dumpster in the middle of the street.
Unfortunately for our client, because the driver never saw the dumpster, he drove right into it, rendering Jason a quadriplegic.
When the police arrived, they, too, almost drove into the dumpster. Our office hired investigators who canvassed the neighborhood and spoke with the neighbors who revealed letters and statements sent to the city and to Metra that this dumpster was dangerous and needed to be removed as soon as possible.
The City and Metra failed to take any measure to remove the dumpsters. We assisted Jason’s family with securing a funding source for his needed care while the case was pending. In addition, we were able to get his workers compensation benefits started and social security, as well. We assisted with Jason’s caregivers and doctors throughout the case.
Sadly, after 2 years suffering as a quadriplegic, Jason died. The family was understandably devastated. We were able to secure a settlement of $5.6 million. Once again the team approach seemed to put the needed.
Our client Brianna (name changed to protect client) was operating a vehicle for a rental company when she was struck by a driver who ran a red light. She suffered a serious neck injury from the accident. Our attorneys successfully secured a settlement of $215,000 for our client.
Our clients Sheila (name changed to protect client) was rear-ended while driving. The impact caused her vehicle to flip over a couple of times. As a result, Sheila suffered serious injuries including a subdural hematoma, which required immediate surgery and extensive care. Our attorneys successfully secured a settlement of $300,000 for our client.
Rhonda’s (name changed to protect client) family called our law firm after learning that Rhonda was struck by a bus as she was crossing the street in Chicago. She was pushing a shopping cart across the street on her way to the store to purchase gifts for her grandchildren when she was struck. When the bus hit her, it also rolled over her body.
As a result, Rhonda was in intensive care for several weeks. She suffered multiple pelvic fractures, spinal fractures, and rib fractures. She also required a hip replacement due to her hip fractures. In court, the bus driver testified that she never saw Rhonda or her shopping cart until other pedestrians shouted at her to stop the bus.
The driver also pleaded guilty in traffic court, as she had not exercised care in driving, and as a result, struck Rhonda. Our attorneys pursued the theory that the bus driver failed to see Rhonda crossing the street when she was in plain view on a designated crosswalk. The court agreed with our theory and our attorneys settled the case for $1.25 million.
Jay’s wife Pamela (names changed to protect clients) called our office for help after her husband passed away in a terrible car accident. Pamela’s friend was driving the car, where Jay and two other people were passengers. As they were driving on the highway a drunk driver rear-ended them. Tragically, the car caught fire and Jay was trapped inside the burning vehicle.
As a result, he passed away. Our attorneys used their extensive experience with the insurance companies, and successfully negotiated a settlement of $830,000 for this tragic accident.
Trevor (name changed to protect client), a 13-year-old young man, had disembarked from a CTA bus to visit a relative who worked for the CTA garage. As Trevor was walking between the front of one bus and the rear of another bus, the driver of the bus reached into the bus from the driver’s side to push the lever to close the door. However, since the driver never put the bus in park, it rolled forward, struck Trevor and pinned his leg.
He was rushed to the hospital where doctors found that he had broken his leg. He required several surgeries for the severe injuries to his leg. This was very devastating to Trevor because he was very active, and had loved being a part of the football team during the summer. He could not even go to the bathroom on his own anymore because of the injuries. The leg never healed properly, and Trevor has to deal with a permanent leg injury for the rest of his life.
Although the CTA tried to claim that the driver who caused the bus to roll forward acted out of his scope of employment, our attorneys proved that the CTA was negligent. Ultimately, in our fight to protect Trevor’s rights, our attorneys reached a settlement for the case for $1.25 million.
Mike (name changed to protect client) was driving a truck through an intersection when he was struck by another truck that ran a red light. He suffered serious injuries from the accident, including a neck fracture for which he required a serious surgery. Our legal team successfully secured a settlement of $330,000 for our client.
Daniel (name changed to protect client) contacted the Pintas & Mullins Law Firm after his wife had been killed in an accident in Arkansas involving an Indian Trails Bus. The bus struck the car that Daniel’s wife was in, killing her and the three other passengers in the car. The Pintas & Mullins Law Firm, in association with local co-counsel, proved that not only was there negligence on the driver’s part, but there was also a case against the bus company for negligent entrustment.
This proof opened the gate to a punitive damage claim for negligence on multiple levels, including requiring the driver to operate the bus longer than the limit allowable by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act. Our attorneys pursued the theory that the bus driver suffered from a sleeping disorder and the employer did not perform a sufficient medical background check that would have kept the driver from getting behind the wheel.
Our lawyers gathered enough facts and evidence to show that this negligence existed, and the judge agreed, ruling that two separate claims could be pursued. Our attorneys believe that the threat of our punitive damage claim facilitated the settling of the case. Indian Trails settled out of court for $7.5 million that we believe exceeds any verdict for a wrongful death case in Arkansas to date.
Our client Larry (name changed to protect client) was asleep in a truck parked in a Pilot trucking lot. Another truck driver tried to park next to him but struck Larry’s truck. As a result, Larry sustained a serious shoulder injury requiring surgery. Our legal team successfully secured a settlement of $267,000 for our client.
Jamal’s (name changed to protect client) wife called our law firm following a car accident where he was rear-ended by a limousine. Jamal suffered a seizure on the scene, and a head injury which resulted in significant memory loss. He required extensive treatment for his injuries. Our attorneys aggressively negotiated a settlement of $550,000 for Jamal and his family.
