October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as the month comes to a close, our Taxotere lawyers want to shed light on a certain type of chemotherapy available to breast cancer patients.
Taxotere is used to treat breast, stomach, lung, prostate, and head/neck cancers. Most people starting chemotherapy expect to lose their hair temporarily. It’s a common and well-known side effect.
Women who took Taxotere are experiencing something different: permanent baldness.
More than 300,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. This is a huge market for Big Pharma to tap into, claiming their treatments are the “best,” when in reality, the side effects are remarkably devastating, and their drugs no better at fighting tumors.
A Lifetime Reminder
In 2004, Big Pharma company Sanofi began marketing Taxotere to breast cancer doctors and patients, claiming it was better than other chemotherapy drugs.
While there’s no evidence that Taxotere is more effective than other chemo drugs, there’s a lot of evidence that Sanofi went to great lengths to hide how often Taxotere caused permanent hair loss.
Women suffering long-term baldness from Taxotere will never regain their hair growth. This is upsetting for many reasons, not least because they were never told this was a possibility.
Taxotere Lawsuits
All Taxotere lawsuits were recently combined into one court, to make the process more convenient and efficient. The cases are consolidated in Louisiana district court (in MDL No. 2740 Taxotere (docetaxel) Products Liability Litigation).
These lawsuits represent women who received Taxotere chemotherapy and are now suffering permanent hair loss, well after finishing chemotherapy.
The evidence of Sanofi’s cover-ups and lies couldn’t be more clear:
- In 2005, one year after introducing Taxotere, the company updated its warning labels in Canada to show the risk of permanent baldness.
- In 2012, it did the same in Europe.
- Yet it wasn’t until 2015 that Sanofi told American doctors and patients that Taxotere could cause permanent hair loss.
Breast cancer is already an extremely emotional issue. Women who took Taxotere and overcame the illness now face another difficult, emotional hurdle because of Sanofi’s greed: a constant reminder of their cancer, every time they look in the mirror.
