STUDIES CONFIRM PROBLEMS & COMPLICATIONS

Two studies

 caused Johnson & Johnson to recall its hernia mesh. The studies compared the Physiomesh with other hernia mesh products, and found that Physiomesh patients had much higher rates of hernia recurrence and reoperation.

Doctors started using meshes to repair hernias in the 1980s. The mesh is implanted – either through open or noninvasive surgery – to strengthen weak or damaged tissue in the abdomen or bowls. Normally, the mesh stops hernias from recurring.

The Physiomesh, on the other hand, was recalled because it didn’t do its job.
