Lead Poisoning

Lead is a highly toxic substance that can cause serious health problems in both adults and children. It can affect many parts of body: heart, intestines, kidneys, and the reproductive and nervous systems. Exposure to lead poisoning can come through contaminated air, water, soil, food and certain consumer products. One of the biggest threats from lead poisoning is to children from older houses with chipping lead paint. If you are living in a house or apartment built before 1978, it is possible lead paint was used and you and your children might be at risk.

Symptoms of Lead Poisoning

Lead poisoning can occur in two ways, through chronic (long-term) exposure and through acute (high levels over a short period of time) exposure.
